I have to implement a green roof (something like this
http://www.wbdg.org/design/greenroofs.php) into my next project. I will not be very close, so I wanted to skip planting all kinds of small geometry on the roof.
How would you go at it ?

Texture ? Geometry ?

i think you need a mix
if you use just texture you are obtain a flat result
this same probleme with a standard grass

Thanks for the reply.
I was thinking along the lines of a texture plus displacement, although I am not sure whether 1.1 supports displacement ?
Years back there was a tool called surface painter for c4d, which would be the second option. Although this tool is discontinued as far as I know and does not work with current c4d versions.
I would go for a underlying texture plus geometry painted on, does anybody know some tool to do so ?

if you use max... maybe use bump to create geometry and then a good texture [depending on how far your view is]... that should do the trick

hmmm. I do not have max. Well, I think I am going to play around a little bit and see where that will take me. I do have some time before I have to deliver that darn thing.
