World Cup Madness!!

Is this the worst officiating in World Cup history or what!?

Let me say that Italy is my team....the guys I want to win. Unfortunately, they have been playing just as bad as England, and getting just as lucky.

That penalty call today was complete BS and robbed the Australians. I don't think the Aussies would have scored in the extra 30 minutes anyway, but at least it would have been fair and square. Instead a referee alone has sent them home.

Then there's the Portugal-Holland ref, Ivanov. What a loser. He totally ruined that game. Portugal was playing really, really dirty in my opinion (I think the Ronaldo injury affected them mentally), but the ref let it get out of control. It was only a matter of time before the Holland group started to act juvenile as well. Why wasn't Figo booted for the head-butt?

Then there's the South Korea - Switzerland game. Korea 20 Fouls. Switzerland 5. Enough said.

The only bright spot has been the Swiss referee who officiated the Argentina - Mexico game. Only 6 yellows in the entire game, including 30 minutes of overtime play! He let the guys play and run, called fouls without resorting to yellows (he called 28 fouls on Mexico and 23 on Argentina) giving us what is by far, the greatest game of this cup.

FIFA needs to do something.

Heh FIFA *is* doing something, and that's just the problem...

Anyways, quite a flat world cup, all of the 'big' teams advance with a little help from, ahem, 'above'...

Let's hope Ghana takes it all... :D

Hey daros,

What are the feelings towards the Azzuri in Italy? Are they getting praised or are folks disappointed with their play. My wife is from Trieste so by default that's who I have to cheer for. I just imagine that the Italian press is coming down hard on these guys.

Ciao.

I'd like Spain to win, when they play it's fun to watch and they don't just slam into other players. Ghana plays too rough, and no imagination....

This is something I just can't agree. Any other result is acceptable but this.

 We take beating our neighbours quite seriously...

Felipão is known here in Brazil for playing rough. His voice was recorded once on half time (over the windows) and he was clearly instructing his guys to hit hard on someone from the other team . But he took the cup that time... and many others later...

But anyway, HollandXPortugal left no good guys, them all went crazy.

Ciao.
an italian friend of mine says she can't praise them any more. half of them are somehow involved in the scandal around the italian league - and all of them are just bad unfair actors, living perfectly up to their bad name. you know - poke one and he will fall crying "oh my god - he murdered me - help me referee" ...

We went to this beach house and saw the game.
It was really unfair the way the last few seconds turned.

do not underestimate the french...:)
france teams, like in rugby, often have cyclic genius... beeing able of the worst, as well as genius like games sometimes.... we would prefer regularity thu.. way less stress....If we pass the spanish step, we might go far...

As for NL - Portugal... am not sure the referee is totally faulty...I am always astonished that guys that earn so much cash playing football cannot learn to control their nerves.... and act like kids in the backyard.. what a shamefull behaviour we got to see the other day!!
