3D app of choice directly to render core would still be my preferred method. Since we need the mat editor, i can live with doing minor adjustments to an otherwise completed scene in studio. The point that kills me is when it turns out you need to change geometry and such to fix the render result, that's when i export from my 3d app again and the whole cycle repeats, very annoying.

Fix Studio and maybe some time i'll give it a try for better results
Meanwhile it is necessary to have the plugins for a better workflow

Well, that's not really true. I voted for the first one but I use studio for making materials and so (and because plugins don't translate materials correctly)
I would use it if becomes more confortable.
