Max, very nice pics.
Hard to beat Arctic light in July.
Of coarse, it takes a good eye to put it all together.
I use paper towels for light filters. A bit softer than printer paper.
And easier on the hands.
Is that the tea pot you use to brew the tea I sent you?
cheers.

Thanks Larry :) it's good to hear you too liked them. Hehe the arctic light is actually great :D clear skies, no clouds and the sun is up day and night here for months now, it's difficult to bear.

Papertowels hmm.. good idea, those should soften the light too. I think any type of fine thin cloth or paper does a good job.

That teapot :) hehe noo it's only for decorative purposes and not for brewing tea in, i got another one i brew tea like yours in. It works better for that :)

Hey Max,
I guess all that sunlight is keeping you up.
Actually there is quite a bit of difference in desireable light dispersion with papers and fabric.
I've found the general rule is "the looser and whiter the better".
White fabrics often transmit lousy white light. My preference is cheap synthetic knits. Its easy to test.....hold it up facing a sun fed window in the fabric store. You will be amazed how yellow to brownish some white fabrics appear.
Yeah, I've spend some time building low tech product photo studios.
And if you want to build something to hold it up with, go to the plumbing department in a home improvement center and look at PVC pipe. Cheap, easy to cut and all sorts of straight pieces and corners available.
Last stop, electrical. Get the heavy gauge uninsultated copper wire. Use it to hold up anything the PVC isn't suited for.
You may need what we call "tin snips" to cut it.
Keep up the good work.
Oh, and you forgot to mention what a delightful camera you have.
Say Hi to the polar bears.
cheers.

good stuff Glyptimax,

That copper wire used to be cheap, ...it's not anymore, ...check it. 30-40% price hike in the last few months.

Galvanized hanging wire used for drop ceilings is best, ....still reasonably cheap. a la Home Depot. Also can be cut with a standard pair of wire cutters. Sturdy ones .... :)

PS. The PVC prices are also heading skyward.

I think those days of building quick -n- cheap, ....are gone. :(

Took these this evening at Piha, a beach on the west coast about an hours drive from where I live. The sea on the east coast, where I live, is a lot calmer than the West.
