Beta 06 skydome

Just played around with some mxi emitters on beta 06. It works now!
I made a skydome in Vue, imported to SU as 3ds, converted the hdri sky to mxi and added emitter for getting shadows from the sun. The candles are also mxi emitters. I rendered the statue of Pavol in brushed aluminium, with some UI enhancements and a materials library I am ready to render it in gold…

It wasn’t as easy as it sounds. I first had to update Vue to the latest version for the sky export to work at all. I then exported the skydome by exporting the entire scene as 3ds. The exported jpg from that operation was just black, but by exporting the sky separately from “export sky” works. I wanted to export the skydome as 3ds so I could bet a spherically mapped sphere to SketchUp, but is seems Vue exported the sphere with normals facing out, so I opened in Max and flipped the normals, then imported it to Sketchup and changed the black sky map to the right one. I also exported the sky as HDRI from Vue, opened it in the MXI Viewer, set intensity to 60 (just guessing what it should be) and saved as MXI. I then made the sphere emitter in SU and selected the MXI as emitter map. I added a separate emitter for sun, because the Vue sun wasn’t exported in the HDRI. Are you still with me?
To make it a bit easier I will post the dome on the SU forum. You will have to make the mxi your self as it is over 50Mb. You should now be able to make different skies just by exporting the sky jpg (UV sphere) and the hdri for mxi conversion and then apply them to the dome.

Let me know how it works…
