"There is objects without material"

I've been trying to use this plugin and I think I'm doing this correctly by the instructions, but every time I run it I get:

[Error]: writeMXS on There is Objects without material

Anybody know what does this? Don't all my objects have materials, even if I missed something and it just has material "Default" (I tried defining a [Default] material in my 3ds2mxs.ini but to no avail.) There are no extraneous objects, I cleaned it all up...

I thought I had this figured out, that it was the earth plane which defaults to a material called BackColor that was undefined, and when I went and defined it I didn't have that error any more but 3DS2MXS gave me a much more normal crash with a Windows error box. Tried exploding everything (thanks for the tip hrothgar) and then flipping all the purple, but still no luck.

This is a somewhat complex scene - I got it to work using a very simple scene - so, is there a limit on how much geometry I can have in my 3DS file?

Please set not BackColor but other material to the the earth plane.
and
"Generate cameras" is checked when export.

If it is unrelated, I'm sorry.
