i have been getting some strange distortions when using a brick material i downloaded. any ideas on why this is ?
also, no matter what size i set the image size i get the same size render area showing in SU and it doesnt relate to the rendered image at all. this use to work fine in 1.6 ?

This is typically caused by bad UV mapping generated by SketchUp - SketchUp is not very good at UV mapping, the solution is to divide the faces (draw additional lines) to assist it with the UV coordinates computation.

I have to admit I am not sure what you mean here. Note that image size you set in the camera panel is not directly shown in SketchUp view - instead the view is clipped to keep the same aspect ratio (width divided by height) as the desired image size. In other words - the resolution of SketchUp view doesn't have any effect on the image size of the Maxwell rendering - what you see in SketchUp view will be visible in Maxwell rendering with the desired image size.

this must be a material that uses displacement, huh?

Yeah just looks like the displacement is set wrong (way wrong)!

The material settings look fine so you can open the generated .mxs in Studio, switch the viewport to Texture or Texture Decal mode and check how the textures are applied to those objects. It looks like the UVs are totally messed up.

For a scene like this it is necessary to check the "absolute units".
