I just wanted to show a small experiment with 8226 instanced grass planes.
I used Didier Burs Instance spraying Ruby to place the components. The “face camera” components used a Grass material by thxraph from the Mxm gallery.
This was just a quick test, and with some adjustments to the density of the components this could work nicely. With the new plugin this exports swiftly, and renders nicely as the components are exported as Maxwell instances.

Looks though like you need to cut down the varied height of the grass to stop the excessive tufting. But I know this is just a test.
