First of all, thanks for taking the time and effort to get SU to Maxwell in a proper way. Getting materials assigned is probably most important right now. So big thanks.

I am on OSX and downloaded your files.
I get a Plugins folder with:
-sketchRenderTool.rb
-SketchRender.pdf
and a folder named SketchRender with:
-sketchRender.rb

Then also a folder named Library with:
-Basic vol. i.skm

I wonder where to put all this.
I tried storing as the folders suggest. I sketchup nothing happens when I try to assign MXMaterials. I have probably put files in wrong folders although all other commands work fine.

Can not wait to assign materials, hope you can help me out. Doing something stupid probably.

Yes I can see the Basic vol. i. library in Sketchup. I put the file Basic vol.i.skm file under folowing the route Library-Aplications Support-Sketchup 5 -materials folder

Its show up in under the window Colors in Sketchup. I see several materials with plain colored textures some transparant, 25 in total.

I don't need to activate the extension since it shows up from the moment I start up SU and ctrl click on a face in SU.
Even if I want to activate the extension it does not show up under the prefences menu if clik extensions where I find the Sandbox, Utilities and Ruby script examples.

The extension shows up under the double lines as you say they should.
When I try to asign mxm materials the Ruby console shows this:

Error: #<NoMethodError: undefined method `+' for nil:NilClass>
/Users/frv/Library/Application Support/SketchUp 5/Plugins/sketchRenderTool.rb:78:in `assignMaterials'

ok, things work better now, thanks
I have not yet been testing really but one thing remains a problem and that is when I assign textures that hold images the file fails to render and gives me this in Maxwell:

>> Checking Data...
>> Loading Bitmaps & Preprocessing Data...
>> Error: Bitmap File not found ( C:/Maxwell cosas/Textures/Misc/Cardboard/misc+cardboard+01_d.png )
>> Render Failed.

If I active more than one face at a time and assign mxm textures by ctrl clicking a face than I have to click open for every face that is activated. Maybe I should group faces to assign materials for more than one face with the same material.

I think the only really good way is to be able to asign a mxm material to a face with a certain SU color. Then the plugin should asign all faces with that SU color with the same mxm material. There is a plugin that still shows up as I installed it sometime before and the command reads Set Texture thoughout. At least I think its what it does. Don't know for sure if it works like that. Actually any plugin that could link SU colors to mxm materials would be great.

Its been a bit of a hassle to work through all the bugs and plugins lately. I am going to bed and start things up end of the week again. Need to finish some SU work and sorry to see I am still not able to get any productivity from maxwell. Happy that I did not promise anyone any serious renderings yet. Just did a sunshade study and would have loved to add a wooden model shaded with Maxwell. All I get for now are weird triangulations and no full textures like wood yet. Hopefully some other time.

A few questions:

1. Can you add to your library and how is this achieved, ie ; if we download a MXM material how do we add a material representing this to the library.

2. How does it work? I get no context on right click and if I paint the selected faces with the material all I get is diffuse coloured materials in studio. How does this compare to just exporting an unassigned material from SU?

That worked, I wasn't originally sure waht you meant about the extension.

By the way is "assign material" available via shortcut?

Hi hrothgar,

first of all thank you much.

Second is , i get trouble with my organizer folder structure.
Is it possible to put the SketchRenderTool.rb out of the folder in the Plugins directory. It only have to change the required .rb directly to the main folder.
Or does the plugin also run under Sketchup>Tools?

Hey guys, let me know if someone else noted this.

It seems that if you check the Auto MXM option in the new plugin (from 6/02), then the SketchRender tool from Hrothgar doesn't work.

In other words, if you use SketchRender to apply mxm materials, the auto mxm option "cancels" it out and all you get is diffuse materials.

Anyone else notice this?
