Everything related to Maxwell Render and General Stuff that doesn't fit in other categories

Hi,
I plan to buy a new computer in the coming months.
(I still come to ask here despite the situation...)

After having made an inventory of current processors,
I wonder about the new hedts from Intel (Xeon Workstation W3400 / W2400)
In particular the bigest of the W2400s, the W7 2495X

The 2495X has 24 cores, costs around 2500 €
and it doesn't do better than an i9 13900K (24 cores too) which costs around 700 €
(in classic benchmarks)

These new intel hedt seem totally uninteresting for 3D rendering.
(in view of the performance / price ratio)

Anyone have an opinion on the subject?
Maybe I'll wait for the new Threadripper in September...

I personally avoid Xeon workstation.

Performance - €/$ ratio is unbalanced.

If you want to stick to Maxwell Render,
even without future upgrade on sight from the developing team, the best solution are Threadripper.
Especially if you plan to use mainly the cpu to render.

We have 2990wx - 3970x and 3990x rendering workstation and all 3 work extremely well.

Just keep in mind actually Maxwell render support only RTX / quadro 3000 series for gpus computing.

If you plan to use other rendering engines like Lumion, Twinmotion , Octane, Vray,
Go for a 7950x + dual 4090
Actually it’s a good investment ( or 13900k )

We are waiting too for the next non- pro
Threadripper series.

Hello Matteo,
thank you very much for the return.

Ok, that reassures me,
I did not really understand this new W3400 Xeon generation (which is supposed to "replace" i9)
I thought I missed something...

Yes I saw for the non support of new Nvidia,
this poses a very big problem for my new config,
I really hope that NL will give us some news...

I will surely wait septembre to see what the new Theadripper gives.

If Maxwell really has to stop,
I think I would go see Bella Render,
but I really hope it doesn't come to that.

Thanks again,

Bella render forum seems dead too.

I don’t know the health status of their project.

Actually I’m still using Maxwell within Threadripper and on older gpus generation.

Hope Maxwell render could be brought back to life.

But Twinmotion is improving way faster, especially with multi gpus support.

Bella stays alive,
it's active on Discord

If you can wait, AMD is rumored to be bringing back the non-Pro threadripper HEDT line which will certainly become the preferred processor for CPU rendering. All signs point to this launch within the next 6-8 weeks.

Yes, 7995wx coming this fall.

I’m curious to see the street price for this beast.

Considering the Epyc counterpart is listed at over 11.000€ 😉

Hi dmeyer,
I saw that the 7000 series was going to be released but it is in a PRO version.
Do you have a link to the non-pro versions?

7980x Threadripper could be the soft spot for a new workstation. Target price around 5.000€

The perfect substitution for 3990x

7995wx would be awesome but considering the server counterpart is listed around 11.000€, this could easily be priced around 9.000?
