High core count CPUs and future

Yesterday AMD announced 64core Threadripper coming to HEDT segment in 2020, exact release date wasn't specified.

My questions and speculation:
What is the maximum number of threads that Maxwell can utilize now ?
Do you plan to make further optimizations when it comes to systems with many threads ? (e.g. 100+)

We might see 4-way SMT (4threads per core) in next few years in consumer CPUs and that would be quite nice jump in thread counts for rendering.

We have tested maxwell on 160 thread system. Some years ago we detected a performance degradation above 80 threads because there is memory bottleneck there. But memory had a lot of improvement on recent years. For example in cloud, using 96 core machine there's no performance degradation.
