Render Passes + Caustics

Is there a way to render out a caustics pass separately, say like in mental ray? Or does anyone know of a relatively simple way of extracting just caustics in post?

It's a relatively simple thing to do (hide refractive objects from Camera and render again) -- but the problem is without some way to distort the "caustics pass" to account for the "Index of Refraction+Geometry=Distortion" (and attenuation as well) you will never get a realistic result.

Unfortunately that potato, just cant see that it is a potato, on account of being so mashed up....
