but there is no such button in the toolbar in Max 2017. Any other way to launch it?

Hi Ingvar,
Please, open Customize User Interface window and click on Reset button in Toolbars tab. Then restart Max and most probably you will find the toolbar with the missing button.
I hope this helps.
Best,
Fernando

Hmm...didn't work. Tried it twice, and still no button in the toolbar. When i look in the toolbars tab I can see an entry for that button, it just doesn't exist in the toolbar. Any other ideas?
Sincerely,
Ingvar

Well, if you can see the entry for that button, you should be able to drag it onto the toolbar, shouldn't you?

Another way of accessing the converter is running its script, which you can find at C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2017\scripts\maxwell
It should be the same thing.
Cheers!

Yes, that worked. Thank you.
But, I've tested a bit, and it seems the converter can't handle Max Multi/sub materials, so a multi/sub with three v-ray materials gets converted into a single maxwell material, with very weird results, and makes it unusable for a lot of the model-libraries i have.
