Hi All,

I am looking at a monitor purchase. I am after something that can represent true colors (100% sRGB & close to 100%A dobeRGB ) as I print my creations on high-end printers. And I render with the MR Adobe RGB 98 colorspace activated. I hope thats the right way to di it...

BenQ SW 2700 PT has had solid reviews for quite a while now. Here an in-depth review, among many others, all very positive: https://www.colbybrownphotography.com/g ... d-monitor/ )

My question is: with my newly aquired setup and the GPU thats part of it - GTX1080ti ( https://www.zotac.com/us/product/graphi ... mp-edition ) - will the monitor get the right signal to run at its full 10-bit potential?
Or would i need a Quadro card for that? (Which would be a real bummer)

thanks for your feedback!

That's a bit confusing. Check this:

First things first. You need a 10-bit monitor. For a true and "unlimited" support of 10-bit in most applications (Photoshop, Illustrator etc.) you need a Quadro. But check the web for 1080 ti 10-bit. There are a lot of discussions.

hi arcmos,

Yeah its utterly confusing. And I got GTX in my machine, so that, in future, I can get 3 more extra and render via GPU.

Does that mean that I need another GPU, a Quadro grade, on top of the GTXs, to be able to edit on 10bit screen?

thats nuts no?

To be honest I’m not 100% sure. In my case I wanted to make sure that 10bit works on OpenGL and DirextX. That’s why I choose a Quadro.
Quadro > Display(s)
GeForce > Rendering only

That way you have 10bit and enough CUDA cores for rendering.

+ real 10bit workflow (with the right display)
+ dedicated graphics card for rendering

- less VRAM for the money (1080Ti has 11GB, to use the full 11GB you’ll need a P5000)
- less CUDA cores for the money
- 2 drivers to take care

I use a M4000 card. M5000 was tempting but too expensive for me :)

I've posted similar question on CGtalk, one of the respondents posted this link:
http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/ ... force-gpus
But its from 2011...?
If this is true, then thats rather depressing. I honestly dont feel like shelling out another £700 for a quadro to get 10bit in photoshop.
Shouldnt there be a way around, somehow get pshop to be friends with directX?
#396479
AFAIK 10 bits are supported on geforce since series 200... only on Direct X. That means for games as most apps guis are made with openGL. Then Quadro cards allowed to do 10 bits openGL GUI, and pascal cards on geforce lets use 10 bits openGL... but only on fullscreen, so again, for games, not apps. This is a way to force profesionals to buy more expensive quadro cards. I won't be on a rush to get 10 bit things until geforce supports 10bit windowed openGL. As most apps won't change gui until then.

I see... so does this apply to MR user interface as well?

meaning: If I am looking at the rendered image within the MR user interface, (image that was rendered with the AdobeRGB colorspace activated), on a screen thats 10bit, via GTX card, am I seeing 10bit colors or 8bit colors?

Maxwell interface is completly 8bit. I hope this year monitor market pushes to hdr tendency. I prefer the more color movement rathen than more resolution.

luis, let me ask you a question, since you seem to know quite a bit about this stuff. Is the benq sw2700pt worth it, even if I will not be able to feed it 10bit? It still has (aside from the 100%AdobeRGB that I cant use with my card) 100% sRGB and great reviews... or am i just really wasting money on a screen that I cant use to its full potential. I mean, its approx £700 for a professional screen so seems like a great deal? or what would you buy at that price.

I'm the absolute opposite of an artist. I think I'm not the best to give opinion about that kind of monitor.

hi arcmos,
well eizo is a different ball game pricewise. i cant justify the cost of these. but the benq sw2700pt is £700.
so i am really tempted... but not sure, cos cant feed it 10bit... but it still might be superior to other screens even when ran at 8bit, colors wise.
#396510
Well I agree with Arcmos. I've been using Eizo for so many years and those monitors are solid. They come with a color calibrator and yes they are a bit expensive but they serve the purpose very well. Check them out if you are interested.

Also a link on some information on the 10 bit with different cards.

Good luck!
