Maxwell fire - Maya plugin

Is anyone facing a problem in Maxwell fire - Maya plugin? I am using Maya 2018, Maxwell fire is too slow during voxelization using the draft engine, and super fast using the production one :D any clue?

Thanks,
Abed

Hello Abed,

I don't see that behaviour here. Is there anything special in the scene? Does it happen with every scene?

Best,
Fernando

Hello Abed,

What does it mean too slow? Does the preprocess time take many seconds?

Is it possible that your scene contains a lot of not too high poly number objects?

What happens when you set the Maxwell render thread number to 1? Is the voxelisation faster after that?

Well, the scene has some details on it, specially the circuit board on the character, but it's not that of a heavy scene, it is also happening even when I tried to test it on some primitive spheres inside Maya, duplicate them few times, and the voxelization started to slow down on draft.

Hi Márton,

I had to run a test with render thread set to 0 and 1.
Set to 0 took 02':37".
Set to 1 took 00':21" much faster for the attached scenes.

Does this mean that I have also to set the same thread number for the final render and please I would appreciate an explanation for that?

Thanks,
Abed

Hello Abed,

Unfortunately I have no logical explanation.... I am only guessing that there is a block in the parallel preprocessing (in the Draft engine) - so instead of parallel preprocessing the threads maybe just block each other. But after the voxelization stage more threads mean faster rendering (as it should).

I will forward this problem to the core team.
