material editor saves corrupt files

Hi

I'm having some problems with the material editor.
when i make a new material in the editor and saves it, the file generated has no extension, and is not an mxm file.
i can force it to save the right format by choosing pack and go mxm, but when i link to the file from sketchup, no previews or textures are importet.
i have tried to eliminate strange names/characters, and tried to save to multiple directories (including the desktop).
any idea whats going on? it's hard to do renders without the material editor ;-)

... I think I might have found the problem... you have to manually type ind ".mxm" when you specify a filename... if you delete the extension, the fileformat is lost when you hit save. Not a huge problem, but you have to know :-)

Hello,

Trying to reproduce this problem i see it does not add the extension by default if user removes it from the file name. This is obviously wrong and it will be fixed, but the file seems to be a valid mxm file, and the only thing i had to do is renaming the file.

Is that not your case?

Hello

I think it behaves the same on my machine... the file is not valid without the extension, but I can add it manually after the file is made (or just add it in the naming, when i save the file in the first place).
by default windows is set up to not display extensions, and therefore its not so obvious when you look in your folder, that the problem lies here :-)

Will having to add .mxm to the file every time we save a file be fixed?

I also have a problem that Rhino often doesn't find the materials image files, it will look for them in the original location. This is even though it works fine in the materials editor. Only way to fix it I found is to save the same material in the folder and rename it, like xxxxxxxxxxNEW then it works.
