i have windows
in programdata/nextlimit/maxwell/licenses
you need to remove the demo license
than open : localhost:5054 in your browser and click : Reread/Restart servers
and check status to see if it read the license or it read another license

I had to manually delete the *.lic files (In my case there were three such files) located "C:\ProgramData\Next Limit\Maxwell\licenses"

Is there a more definitive solution to this?

Every few days Maxwell goes back to demo mode for me.
I delete the lic files, re-authorize, and it works. Few days later... back to demo mode.

I'd check if the hostID (ethernet adress) doesn't change on you for some reason. Maybe you have two network cards? Do you have floating or node licenses? If floating, when it says it's unlicensed, check if the RLM server is running and start it if it isn't.
