Maxwell Grass Blade Length bug?

It seems that the blade length is somehow limited. I needed extremely short blades and I've discovered that no matter what I enter into blade length, the actual rendered length does not become shorter than 1 mm. Is it a bug or a feature?

yes it's limited to 1 mm and it's better if they change the length unit from cm to mm
and you can use cut off to get length smaller than 1 mm

Thank you. Nice tip. Although this doesn't allow to make it bend. At least I am not able to achieve this.
And that still looks like a bug to me.
Update: No, cutoff doesn't work for me. Blade length is still not shorter than 1 mm.
Update2: Cutoff works for Curve and Flat but not for Cylinder I was using.

I would be glad to see a comment from the Next Limit developers. Is it a known bug/limitation? Is there a workaround?
Thank you.

Hi,
cutoff maps are not implemented in cylinder primitive yet, and i'm afraid there's no other workaround than using a length map. I'm working on this now.
Sorry for the annoyance.
Cheerios.
Miguel.

Maybe there is a workaround that allows to bend flat blades that are cut off to be shorter than 1 mm? I was not able to achieve this unfortunately.
I believe a Global Scale option in the grass node could help a lot))

Cant you use maxwell hair instead of maxwell grass to make short grass?

Eric, hair needs too many guides for this, that's not the best setup I think.
This time I used a texture and some retouching to achieve the desired result as there was no need in a close-up. Another option is to use several nodes of maxwell scatter with different shapes as Fernando from the NextLimit suggested.
I've just come up with another idea: to scale the object up, apply Maxwell Grass and export as mxs. Then import to the real scale scene and scale it down. I'll have to test if it works that way.

Hi Ababak
Why you don't scale down the object ; add grass than hide it ? Can you show what you want create ?

Hi Seghier,
I wanted to make some fluff on the peach surface, something like here:
http://pngimg.com/download/4860
The scene is in real scale and so the small fluff fibers are to be much smaller than 1 mm. So there's no point in scaling down the object. As I wrote above, I'll try to scale the peach up and separate in to its own mxs which will then be imported and scaled down to revert to real scale.

ok thanks

you don't need use cylinder ; this is very small shapes and you can get what you want
don't scale the object ; try something like 'shell in 3dsmax' or 'surface offset in rhino' than apply grass and hide it
that allow you to use bend tool and control the blade length ; and create maps for : density , bend , length , initial angle , cuttoff

I did a test with referencing an mxs and unfortunately the grass settings do not honour the referenced object scale. So I saved a peach model scaled 100 times up as an mxs file and set up the grass. When importing a Maxwell reference object and scaling it down 100 times I get a correctly scaled model but with giant grass blades.

Do you mean to hide the root of the grass inside the model so that only the tip appears above the surface?

yes ; because the root width limited to 1 mm
this is a test : and i will post the link of the file
