Caustics

Is there a kind of 'simple caustics' which gets generated when all caustics are switched off?
I've tested a simple scene (see attached) to test this.

Here's a similar scene with a glass torus.
These are rendered to SL12 where the deeper caustics might not be visible, so I'm just rendering a SL18 also.

I think this is a bug in 2.6.1 which has been fixed for 2.7. I think direct caustics where always on.

actually it has been impossible to switch off direct caustics since before version 2.0

If it's tricky to switch off direct caustics, maybe just have an option for switching off indirect caustics and leave direct caustics as part of the default render.
