V2 and mutiprocessors

The V2 render is 2 or 3 time slower than V1,7 on my macpro 8 core...
This is a big problem ! I return on the 1.7 for my job...
And I think this is a mutiproc problem because the activity is very low.
Do you have this problem ?

Thanks

could you try this with the thread setting to '0' and then again with '8' and see if there are differences?

On my 8 cores Mac Pro 2009 2.66 GHz, everything is working fine: processor activity is at 99% (with iStat menu), and render times are much better. Actually, reaching a specific SL doesn't seem to be much faster than before, but noise clears now 2-3 SL earlier.

Hi deis,

Maxwell v2 should never be slower than v1.7 in any circumstance. If so, it would be a serious bug and we would like it to be solved as soon as possible.

Multiprocessor support in Maxwell v2 is even better than in v1.7, and scales linearly with number of processors up to 32 cores. If the activity is very low, maybe Maxwell is taking more RAM than you have installed in your system and must swap memory with hard disk (for example color multilight can consume a lot of memory with several light sources), or maybe your output path is located in a slow device so saving a big MXI file to it can take a lot of time.

Could you send us your scene to test here, and try to find where the problem is? Try to get the smallest scene where you see this problem and send it to us through tech support.

Thanks a lot

Hello,

Thanks for your interest.
I try to render a very big scene, without multilight, but a lot of poly, and a lot of lightsources.
I have 8 Go RAM, and on 1.7, the activity is 99 to 100%
on V2, it is les than 25 %.
I'll try with a smaller scene to test your eventuality...

I work with a macpro with OSX 10.5.6. (Not snow Leopard)

Thanks

I have the same probleme here V2 seems to be slower and surely not faster...
A collegue of mine is making comparaisons test beetween the two and seems in favor to keep on working
with 1.7...

Sorry to say it but NL will have to improve something here.

Otherwise nice interface improvement but this is not enough top pay for, I was waiting for much better speed.

I would like to know if many Mac users haver the same feeling...

My experience totally opposed. V2 is faster. Everything is really working on V2, only some problems with instances.

Hi all,

If anyone has a scene that does not work as expected (slower than 1.7, CPU activity very low, ... ) please contact me with a private message and your e-mail and I will contact you directly so you can send me the scene.

Thanks a lot,

nachob

Very kind of you Nachob I will try to manage this tomorrow...

Thanks...

PS I see that for some Mac users it seems that there is a speed improvement by others not....
Where could it comes from that is the question ...
