often can't do render region in mxstudio.app

I find that half the time I use mxstudio for rendering, I can't get it to respond when dragging a marquee for render region. Only after jiggling many handles arbitrarily (like changing window layouts) that it eventually works. It's happened on multiple machines.

check it out:

that's a lucky try. Often I can click 20 times and nothing...

I have a problem with render region too, but not the one of gcbeige.
Often, and I saw that it is specific to the file, I select the rectangle and when it opens mxcl.exe it renders the whole image. What can I do?

TIA, Gio

I saw that once - you have to be careful not to pick a region outside of the camera gate crop. that should fix it

Oh, thank you!
But what if someone is using shift lens and the gate is moved up or down and the area you want to crop is outside the gate but anyhow port of the render?
In my experience what you said is not true: I mean, I had no problem rendering a region selecting an area outside the gate, but in another file I had this problem (outside the gate).
Other times I had the same problem even if I wasn't using shift lens.

TIA, Gio

Sorry to here that, cgbeige! :(

I don't know how it works now, but wouldn't be nice to set up the render region giving the coordinates and the size of it inside the render? Something that could be inserted even in the batch line?
So that we could be absolutely precise (you set up the dimension of the region you want to render in a "photoshop" like program) and not just draw the rectangle on the screen?

well this could all be avoided if I could render regions in Maya. The only reason that I use mxstudio at all is for these region renders since I want to tune areas. It's a real drag on my workflow

okay - I found a partial fix. I changed the UI to studio mode and scaled the window down to not fill the whole screen and for some reason, I get fewer missed clicks. weird

another workaround that seems to address this: selecting objects in the scene before rendering always seems to make the region render work.
