[solved]First time on OSX -problem importing geometry or mxs

So I've moved to a "Rhino in Parallels" workflow and hoped to use Maxwell in OSX. I've done some basic tests making objects in rhino to import into studio in OSX and I haven't been able to import anything. I'm new to studio (been using it as a plugin for rhino and Max for years) so it's entirely possible that I'm missing some major basic step. I can import the geometry fine in studio in XP, just if I try to do it in OSX nothing happens. Literally, I right-click, select import, find the file I need (I've tried 3ds, dxf, stl) and click open and I get nothing. No message about anything and no objects in the scene. If I try to export an MXS from rhino and open it in studio in OSX I get the message "the mxs is obsolete or has been corrupted" but it opens fine in studio in XP. What's the deal? This is on a Dual core 2.66GHz MacPro with 3gb ram running 10.4.11 and Maxwell 1.7.0 and Rhino 4.0 sr3. If anyone has any clues I'm all ears... Oh, I've also tried to do the same thing on another machine in the office and I get completely the same result.
thanks,
austerlitz

Weird. Well, I wouldn't know, I never use Studio for anything, but I was curious and tried to open one of my Parallels/Rhino-exported .mxs files and that worked fine.
Could this have to do with any textures or anything? Sure you are using the same/latest version of both the mac and xp version?

I'm pretty sure I'm using the same version, they both say 1.7.0 and I downloaded them at the same time. There aren't any materials applied so it shouldn't be a texture problem. The weird thing is the 3ds and dxf files won't show up at all either. very strange...

Alright, figured it out for anyone else who might have this problem. Seems that it doesn't like importing files from a network (or at least our particular network). Does that seem strange? As soon as I copied the mxs file onto my desktop on the mac side it came in beautifully. So there we go...

Ok, cool. Good you got things working! Just holler if there is anything else with this workflow you notice or want to discuss. I use it aswell... Well, except the Studio part, I do everthing in Rhino.

I have to say I've been resistant to use the Studio up until now. The office I'm in uses macs but has parallels for rhino which means that it can only use one of the cores to actually render. So the solution has been to bite the bullet and figure out Studio. I mean, the rhino plugin is great but I had a hell of a time last year trying to get my brick textures to map properly. I ended up having to move everything to MAX just so I could control the UV mapping properly. Also, studio gives you the benefit of the tilt shift cameras etc. If I didn't need those things though I would surely stay inside rhino.

I see,
well, texturing has allways been a bit of a hassle in Rhino. But, the plugin has been updated not less than 6 or 7 times the past year (not kidding) and has had tremendous progress.
What kinds of objects are you rendering, and texturing?
I belive the tilt-camera can be done in Rhino by using your right button while pressing shift.

Well, the texturing issue was for something I had last year, it was a building that was all brick and I could just never figure out how to get the corners to match in Rhino. Plus, once I would apply the texture I could never rescale the object without scaling the mapping as well.
And as far as the camera, I believe holding shift and right mouse button pans the camera. I meant that the studio has an option which simulates a tilt-shift lens, the lens which deals with distortion due to a perspective distortion from wide angle lenses.

Ah, you're right,. both that particular texture-problem might be hard to tackle. And as for the Tilt-camera in Rhino, I meant Shift-Alt + Right button... but maybe that has got nothing to do with the lens option you are talking about. However, the shift-camera option exists in the Rhino plugin, as far as I know. I've never used it though..

Did you also get the 3ds.files to open in mxstudio when you moved them to your desktop or only MXS? Im in the same situation as austerlitz working in an mac enviroment over network and have to use 3ds as a common "3d-language". However, I cant get the 3ds to open in mxstudio regardless of what software I create it in (Archicad, 3Dstudio max), and regardless of where teh files is opened from (network, desktop)
