octo mac 10.5.2, only MW installed, many crashes

I just brought in an octo mac with 4Gig ram, and only installed MW on it, pure for rendering.
opened the first (big) job, which is going slow but stable on my old G5 dual with 2 Gig ram,
and it constantly crashes after a few moves in studio (deleting some objects, setting new camera, hiding/unhiding objects, assigning new materials etc.).

no funny programs installed, everything straight out of the box. not even configured for internet.

any ideas?

wim

ps. I know there is another thread on a similar problem, I just wanted to double the attention.

I have a new mac pro also with 6 Gig of ram. I´m not a maxwell studio guy, rather than that i prefer to work inside c4d, but i have tested studio a few times with no crash. The crashes are always with the same scene or with different scenes?, if you want you can send me the scene and i will try to render it.

studio crashes

hello wimver

I posted in the other thread.

I have found many crashes are due to path problems i.e.;

1. export mxs from SWX in windows
2. open scene in studio in windows - tidy up and save
3. reboot into osx
4. open scene in mac osx
5. paths are C:\ etc - moving scene around is very fragile and many crashes can happen
6. change paths to \\volumes\disk\folder - things are better

this is not the only issue, studio still crashes in osx with a clean scene.

I'm also getting MXCL crashes mid-render, during voxelisation. I have crash logs if NL want to read through them to help diagnose what is happening.

This is continuing to cause delays in getting work out - very annoying.

I feel your pain !!

Same probs here on exactly the same config wimver.
I have been having no problems with several different g5's
but the new octo 3.2 with 10 gig ram and 10.5.2 is very unstable.

Some word from maxwell on this problem please as I also bought this new machine as a render-only box.....which is not doing much rendering at the moment

some extracts from the logfile. this is from 2 hangups. it also happened that the octo mac simply reboots after a crash. strong stuff, this MW thing!
