Is the speed problem with 8-core Macs running Mac OS X due to the operating system, or is it due to Maxwell? http:///www.benchwell.com

We are investigating it. We have found that changing the rendering threads can affect the render speed. For example rendering with 6 threads will render faster than with 8. We are still trying to find out why we have this behaviour.

Thanks for the info. I'll use 6 threads until you solve the problem.

yes. user experience shows that the best setting for OSX octo macs currently seems to be 6 threads. NL is still investigating about it...

Our experience of running maxwell on the macs is very slow compared to running the same mac with windows xp 32bit.
Using the benchwell project, the mac rendered the scene in 25mins and under xp 12mins.
twice as quick!!!
Also setting the threads to 6 made the render run slower on our mac.
I have not had the chance to change the amount of ram in the machine to see if that varies the render time.
will there be any speed difference with 10.5 64bit mac system?
is the maxwell mac version 64bit?
have next limit find why the render runs so slowly on the mac?
do your own test

After futher rendering we have found that the mac in general rendering is quicker than the pc the benchwell test throws some very strange times.
So I suggest you do your own test and see for your self.

Does anyone know if Maxwell on Leopard is using all 8 cores?
