MXStudio behaving strangely.

Hi there,
Even since updating to 1.5.3 I have been having some problems. Now I'm not sure if they are OSX related or if they are general, sorry if I have posted in the wrong area.

1. I am unable to import 3DS files with out studio crashing as soon as I try to save the object to an MXS. The import seems to work fine, the geometry comes in as it should, but as soon as I try to save it, bang! studio simply crashes. I can reproduce the problem, it's even happening on my vista 32 bit machine.

2. This is the most frustrating one, because I can't save any 3DS files after importing them in 1.5.3, I thought that I'd be smart and import them in 1.1 instead, import and saving works a charm, but when I open them in 1.5.3 then zoom out, you can see what happens, for some strange reson I can see the globe in my scene, no it's not an object that I have imported into my scene  please help.

Cheers.

Hi Ben,

i tried what you have been doing with 3ds on my mac and the same thing happens here. Import does well and after starting to save MXStudio crashes.

1-The problem with importing 3DS files is a general problem for all platforms and will be solved in the next patch.

2-That is a limitation of how things work in OpenGL, it has been reported several times in the past when you zoom out really a lot (probably in your scene the objects you imported are out of scale). What you are seeing there is the sky seen from outside (we are painting it in a sphere, and you usually see it from inside)

Hi nachob...

-> 1. Cool...

-> 2. Funny to get to know how things work (painting sky in a sphere .-))

Guys,
Thank you for the replies, nice to hear I'm not the only one with the problem.

nachob,
unless 1.5.3 handles scales differently, this is not the case. All of my objects are to scale, I can send you one of my objects if you like?

Well now that you mention it, I am actually importing xfrog trees. When I get them into studio they are like 25kms high and 9kms wide, I have to scale them down with a scale factor of 0.0400, to get them to the right size. Could this be the problem causer of problem number 2? If so is this a limitation of studio or am I doing something wrong when I scale the tree objects?

Thanks for your help.
Cheers.

Is the grid turned off in that screenshot? Try turning on the grid again and see if the sky looks normal again.

Hi Again,
Ok I have narrowed down the problem now. I opened one of my tree objects, zoomed in and out, all is fine, but if I zoom in the globe window, in the physical sky settings, then zoom in the main 3D window, it is then the globe shows up in the main 3D window. Unfortunately it doesn't help to zoom in the globe window again, one has to close down studio and start over.

So I'll avoid zooming in the globe window so I don't get the problem to show up. Can anyone else confirm this problem or is it just me?

Cheers.
Ben
