I think that we have to wait till Leopard for a 64-bit version of Mac M~R

I thought Beppeg answer was enough, we need a 64 bit OS to run a 64 bit maxwell, so we need to wait until Leopard is released to have a 64 version for OSX.

As developers, we already have a developer version of Leopard that we are using in our development. We have no date previsions as there are not date previsions for Leopard.

Oh i didn´t understand that.
I have on G5 64bits since 3 years ago... what for useless being 64bits, i thought Panther was 64 bits.

Thanks for the explanation

panther IS 64 bit able, but only for shell commands, meaning without GUI. only specialized software would run.

now, with Leopard, GUIs are in and maxwell 64 bit could be native !

yes, we would like to have it !

isn't maxwell just a command line app with a QT GUI?
so 64 bit should be ok...
I think the delay is just BS.

This is 100% correct, there's no valid reason for saying we have to wait for Leopard. Enblend, an image blending command line app has been 64 bit enabled for years now.

Maxwell is not just a command line with a QT GUI, it could be but it is not.

We thought firstly on doing it for OSX long ago, but when Apple announced Leopard version for Spring 2007 we decided to spend this time in other areas of Maxwell instead of rewriting the whole thing because it would be ready in a better way just waiting for Leopard.

If Leopard was on time you would probably have a 64 bit version for OSX this Spring, we have almost everything ready, but when Apple delayed it to October, we decided to pause it and wait until a final beta for developers is ready.

Thanks nachob for concerning...

We hope when Leopard is out, then Maxwell be also out for 64 bit

I'd like to add that we took the decision knowing that with the new memory improvements in 1.5 you can make a render with 4GB of RAM as big as with an hipotetic 1.1 version in 64 bits in a Mac full of RAM (16GB). So 32 bits in 1.5 cover to almost all users.
