Material preview crash?

Hey all,
Been having an annoying issue with the material editor, both standalone and in Studio – whenever it tries to refresh the preview, it crashes.
What makes me convinced this is some odd bug, rather than some path- or render-related quirkiness, is that, in the standalone editor at least, opening an existing MXM (with preview), then creating a new material, makes the problem go away entirely.
I use Studio a lot, and this makes it impossible for me to set up materials in that – I have to create them in mxed, export them, then import them, and so on. Has anyone else had this issue and have some other workaround? Or has NL said anything about this?
