You have to start it from the terminal, afaik thats the only way to change the parameters like size and quality.

I also have had the same problem with Maxwell Render MacOSX 1.1.33 alpha. I followed all the steps and the application just bounces a few times in the dock and then nothing. Starting from the terminal I get an error message..."illegal instruction". I tried repairing permissions, checked the installation, the license file, the environment.plist file all to no avail.
I had no problems getting the previous release to run from the command line. I'm also on a Dual G4 if that makes a difference.

Hmm, are you sure youre installation path is correct, or your environment variable ? I think i have had that message before too, but now it works at least via terminal.

After a few bounces in the dock. It just halts...
did you put the license.txt INSIDE the /Contents/MacOS/ path? i first failed putting it into /Contents/ with the same problem.
also, double-ckeck if there are no spaces (' ') inside your paths, maxwell don't like them.
hope this helps

Dual G4 the culprit?

I've checked the environmental variable and license file, but still no luck.
Must have something to do with the fact that those of us experiencing problems are on Dual G4s.

Thanks for allowing me to join the queue.
I've been having similar problems M~R and requested help in the MacOS forum. It seems that there is a G4 issue with M~R Alpha 1.033. My command line worked well fed to a G5 and didn't with a G4.

It looks like it's a G4 issue - anyone on the G4 actually got it up and running? I am on a 1 ghz G4 Laptop and have had exactly the same issues described here - everything correct and it will not start... just bounces in the dock a few times and quits.
I heard that there is version compiled for the G4 and hopefully it will be posted today as a bug fix.

Hmm, hasn't the G5 a different version of the terminal than the G4 ?

You have to set the permissions correctly on the new file you downloaded. Do a search for this - it's posted somewhere here on the boards. It works (I promise) once you set the permissions of the file correctly. Now, why NextLimit would not have posted the file with the right permissions I cannot say....but repairing the permissions is what your after! Hope this helps.
