I am just wondering if anyone tried to run RC5 under wine.
If so, do you care to share your experience?
I am willing to try later this week myself.
I don't think that It would be a good idea

JDP- I don't think that it would be a good idea even if you get it to work. I remember getting form Z and Rhino 2.0 to work, but at the expense of rendering speed even tohugh they say WINE is not an emulator I still lost speed when it came to rendering so I imagine that we might get some rendering speed if you get it to work, but it might be worth a try. Let me know what happens

that is what I thought, but it worth a try.
Regarding speed and memory management, are you happy with beta running under linux? because I don't.
actually I found it a little buggy: sometimes it simply quit while rendering without giving any alert.
other than this the interface seems to be a little messy, full of unwanted character and with tab and button borders not very well handled.

just to let you know I did not succeed with wine. mw is currently installed under wine (ubuntu) but nothing happens when I try to launch the mxcl. I will try to debug it tomorrow to find out what it is failing.
btw, I am not very used with wine, so I am probably missing some libraries or variables, if someone succeeded might kindly report it? thx

it seems that the problem is due to a license file error:
Code: Select all$ wine "c:\program files\Next Limit\Maxwell\mxcl.exe"
sizeof(RADEONDRIRec) == 100, devPrivSize 100
License file is invalid!
obviously the licence file is there.
At this point I don't have a clue about how the licence system is handled and I really don't know if I had to look for some specific .dll or something else. Any help from NL will be appreciated, although I try with further investigations.

ok, I am an idiot!
I was trying to starting the wrong application! mxst actually is loaded now, with a lot of errors but I am quite excited,

though the default layout don't shows at startup but everything works right now!
and it seems quite stable and quick.
