Physical sky doesn't work well. Turn off the sun or try the skydome.

the funny thing is that it's no difference in this scene if my sun is off or on using physical sky! weird. i did render it with it because the first render of yazan (in it's last picture post ) has it activated and seems ok. i tried now with the skydome, but no real difference in the materials apart of a lower light emission, of course, and a light blueish background...

Markus,
I just tried the Physical Sky again with sun on and typed -hd into the command line and it's running like a scalded dog. 12 minutes and counting, level 12, without a crash and the render is looking good.

What the hell is going on folks?

Just got this before it crashed. Made it 15 minutes to level 12. It's a start.

Tried a dielectric shader and the windows in Lightwave went wonky and the whole thing crashed, Lightwave and all. Restarted Lightwave, now writes file but won't start render. Go to mxs file, double click everything works till it hits level 10. At this point it has crashed three times.

Seems like a massive memory leak. I can render a 600x300 to level 10, bit a 1200x800 will only make it to 1 before crashing.

And I think we are testing it-unofficially of course. Really is hard to believe this could be released with this many major problems.

did you try the -hd command when you rendered higher resolutions?

They certainly are talking around the OSX people. Kind of sucks.

I can't say that it doesn't work at all. I have one or two files that will render, but I can't consistently get to to work and it always crashes. I can't help but think there must be trick to it that I am missing. Andrewsweet has posted a render in the Gallery Forum that he did and now he seems to be getting the thing to work. He's on OSX.

It would be nice if someone from NL who might have an answer would enlighten us or give us some direction instead of ignoring an entire part of their forum. Don't want to sound whiney, but it's getting ridiculous that there has been no response at all.

Maybe they are just getting ready to update the site with the patches? Let's keep our fingers crossed.

Hear hear, and the problem is... what?

They stopped distributing a version that almost nobody can work with because they know that what they have in their lab already is certainly not worse.
So they rather keep people waiting for a couple of hours than to deliver a version that won't make anybody happy.

Fine with me.
