I can't assign any type of mapping

I'm experimenting with the new SW plugin and Solidworks 2006 SP0. New menu is an improvement, etc, etc., BUT how do you assign a map in the materials menu???

Maybe this isn't working yet? :?

Thanks,

What do you mean by mapping in the material menu.

Have you downloaded Juan's video tutorials? He shows how to assign a custom texture ( this can be used as a workaround for decals as well untill decals are implemented I think). he also shows how a texture jpg can be used to create a bumpy surface that mimics the texture. I am afraid I am not sure if all the check boxes are fully implemented for the 'plastic' material. Maybe someone in the know could answer. I wish that Maxwell would grey out features not implemented yet as it would save alot of time and confusion. :)

Have you got renderings that are without noise? Mine just seem to take hours to get rid of the noise and I wonder how people have the time to get the 'noiseless' renderings that are posted in the rest of the forum  ?

How are youy getting on with sw2006 ? I tried hotoworks in sw2006 and it seems the indirect lighting is totally screwd up . Even with the 'noise' maxwell is just somemuch easier to use. I am slowly building a set of reflectors etc for a studio - I'll pst my efforts when I get them in a better shape.

Thanks, I will check out the video first.

Actually, I only have created one scene in SW 2006 so far. I am only using it to compare the Maxwell Rhino with Maxwell SW. Creating scenes in a Solidworks assembly is a pain! I keep going back to Rhino. I was hoping the Maxwell SW would give less noise and be faster, but I can't tell yet.

Another PROBLEM with my SW 2006 is after setting up a camera and choosing camera view for the display window ALL my objects disappear! They render, but I can't see what my camera view really sees. When I run the mouse over the invisible objects the edges highlight for a split second, then gone. Maybe a video card problem? I'm using an ATi Fire GL that is Solidworks approved, so who knows.

Hey, where's the link for Juan's video tutorial?

Just discovered that the disappearing objects in camera view were due to the large number of objects. Just messing around with a single object works fine. I guess it's just a memory thing.

Here is the link to the videos

Its just another thread in this Solidworks section.

I don't have Rhino so can't comment. Can Rhino now be embedded into Solidworks or does one still need to export the SW assembly to Rhino?

I have found the SW2006 camera a vast improvement on the old. I find thesetting up of sceenes quiet easy in SW but then I have nothing to compare it to so I suppose I am just easy to please :)

On your dissapearing objects etc - I use a Nvidia FX500 and this does not happen but I think SW2006 has a few video problems - as sketch lines etc can dissappear and there can be a time lag in snaps - this sort of thing always happens with new releases and then by sp3 it seems to be fixed :?
