Good morning,

in addition to the discussion about mapping decals within the SW plugin, I was wondering how the image I linked below was done:

This is actually taken from the SW plugin examples on the Maxwell Render homepage. ... I asssume, this is just modeled in SW then further processed in MXStudio, right? ... Because I don't see how this could be done within the plugin....

Your thoughts....?

Im not sure how that was done, but it could all be done using split faces from inside solidworks. There are no gradation or multi-colors in the artwork that look like they would have to be done in studio.

I am holding out hope that 2009 allows for some type of decal mapping to be added somehow by JD. I haven't messed with the beta, but from what I briefiely read on the forums there is still no native texture mapping like cubic, cylindrial, planer etc except through the PW interface.

I remember that one:
All LCD text trimmed out of planar surface then placed 2mm above metallic shader with 50% roughness.
Glass then 2mm above text.

About decals - there are two issues here: mappings and decals. Mappings I intend to get done using 'Appearances' in the SW2008 API. This implies that you will be using RealView (try turning it on, assigning a textured appearance, then going to the 'mapping' tab of the appearance editor - there are some different mappings available there). As for decals, in the 2008 API I can also access the SW decal information, but with decals, access has never been the real issue - Maxwell really doesn't currently have any way of dealing with something like decals, and I haven't yet thought of any any way to fake them.
