Just trying to make a rendering where i can have an object on a white table and create the shadow and alpha masks so its possible to isolate the product later in photoshop and place it onto different backgrounds , but with the cast shadow still in place.

However the Alpha and Shadow png files created are empty.

Anybody - Any Hints as to how to do this.

Alpha will only work for objects with transparency. The id passes might be what you need instead.

For shadow pass, make shadow catch surfaces have shadow on in MXED. (Little icon under mxm preview.)

I tend to save a copy of the mxs, apply a single lambertian mxm to the object(s) I want to cast shadows, then make an mxm with shadow on and assign that to all other objects. Then render as seperate shadow pass.

You should be able to do all this in one render though, by turning on 'shadow' for the mxms, then check material id, object id and shadow in the render options.
