Maxwell Plugin for SolidWorks updated

There is an updated version of the plugin for Solidworks compatible with Maxwell RC4. Older versions could generate invalid mxs files.
New features and known issues:
- A new material type called "preset" has been added. Now it is possible to apply a mxm file (new maxwell advanced materials) to a solidworks entity within the plugin and use the new materials bypassing Maxwell Studio. The materials data file of the Solidworks plugin now has the extension ".swmxm" and the compatibility with old material data files (old mxm files) has not been possible. Old material data within the plugins is lost.
- The creation of unnecessary materials is avoided. The objects are exported with the Sw name. Both aspects make the work inside Maxwell Studio easier.
- All the Solidworks cameras are exported to the mxs file and properly opened in MX studio.
- It is necessary to set the emitters as "custom" to get a right render. We are fixing this issues with light scale.
- Other minor bugs fixed.
We continue developing the plugin and we are glad to hear your comments.
Regards,
Juan

Hi Juan
Couldn't find that "preset" thing, under the material types it does say "MXM File" with a window below it Saying "Set MXM File". When I attempt to set the file I browse to one of the materials in the Nextlimt directory it then asks me to "Save as" this would appear to be a the same as overwriting the file. Is this correct?

Imported the mxm file 'car paint ' that is knocking around the forum.

Hi Jonathon
Something must be wrong with my install I don't have "Preset" as an option.
Did you uninstall RC3 or overwrite it as I did?

John
I uninstalled RC3 then installed RC4 .
I over pasted SW plugin though, and then opened SW and opened the SW plugin dll.
Like you I can't see the preset thingy.
I have imported a mxm file into SW plugin and rendered it in SW . I used 'car paint .mxm ' that is on the forum.
I have also opened the mxs file in Studio and it seems to render there and appear in the preview OK.

Sorry, I did not explain it quite good. with "preset" I was telling that now you can apply a mxm file to a object inside SW.

No problem - I was just begining to think you were working with a secret RC4.1 version

There appears to be only the option to save the MXM file-- I didn't want to do that as it implies the file would be overwritten. So I double clicked it instead and all is well.
I created a video to help others and show Juan that this is a little confusing.

Note there are quite a few standard materials under the Maxwell programme folder.

Thanks for pointing out the new materials.
Glad you seem to have got the software the work.
Juan - The MXM is a little bit counter intuative - Instead of 'Set MXM file' it should say 'Load MXM file' and in the dialogue box it should say 'Open' not 'Save'. Then the if possible the MXM file name should be used in the Material list.
I presume for the future - that then it can be selected and RHMB opened up in the 'Material Editor' and tweeked and saved as as a new file or as an override of the existing MXM. Or like Photoworks - the MXM in the SW plugin can be linked to the MXM file in the data base and we can either break that link or update the MXM file in the database.

This is a bug, it will be solved for the next update. Sorry for the inconveniences, John, do not care about it, this action does not save but open, it does not overwrite anything.

nice update,
great to load the presets from the plugin !!
missing the controls for roughness and anisotropic.
since the RC4 does not deliver the great quality of the beta version I would highly recommend to take a step back to beta which I describe here:
http://www.maxwellrender.com/forum/view ... 9&start=15
the post also shows the bad image quality of RC4
Is this possible or just a dream ?

Must admit I'm a little depressed about the quality of images produced by the RCs.
I hope things improve, before the release.
