I just noticed that with Studio the Render button only starts a render if there is a viewport available.
I made a layout that allows me to concentrate on materials after the scene and camera setup etc
is done so I have these panes:

- Material Editor
- Interactive Preview
- Material List (Materials)

Would be nice if this could work... (Should I move this to the wish-list topic thread?)

Have you tried just tabbing a viewport panel to another panel? Then it would not take up much space.
