MR 3.2.1.x starts very slow on Windows10

For some reason MR has become very slow to start. A small black window with blinking cursor sticks for about 30 seconds before the main window appears (the application seems not responding in this period). This happens probably since I installed the 3.2.1.4. Unfortunately the 3.2.1.5 doesn't solve the issue neither downgrading to 3.2.1.2.

Any Idea?

Anyone else on Win10 could comment on this please?

I manage about 10 nodes with the same Windows10 and MR version now, in some of them I have the same issue in others MR stars istantly as always, I can't understand what happend. Hardware is very similar too. The freezing time of the black window vary from 5 to 30 seconds.

Did you try uninstalling Maxwell and reinstall the latest?

I can confirm that Maxwell "should" run fine on Windows 10 as it seems to work without issues on my Windows 10 workstation. Seghier's probably onto it with the admin privelages. Does it still start slowly if you "Run as Administrator"?

Are you running a stand alone version or a floating license? I believe the interface should actually load prior to the completion of the license validation, which would eliminate a firewall issue, but I could be wrong about that.

After thinking about this a little, you more than likely are using a floating license. If it is a network issue, double check the system that's hosting your RLM server and make sure it's up to date from a system stand point. I've had a few random incidents over the past 3 months or so when the license validation told me there were no licenses left. I knew that couldn't really be the case, so I ended up stopping and restarting the RLM service on the machine hosting the RLM server. Perhaps a simple restart of the RLM service could solve the issue. Also, depending on when you installed Maxwell, there may be a slightly newer version of the RLM software. Originally, I installed it on my farm over a year and half ago. Since that time, a newer install file became available in the customer portal on Next Limit's web site. I downloaded and installed that and have yet to see the locked license issue.

Just some thoughts. Networking issues have multiple points of possible failure, so hopefully it's not some unpredictable bug in your network stack somewhere (a switch, a NIC, the drivers, the applications using the network, etc.). Thanks Lujo!

The license server is on the same workstation I use for work

This is what I did but I'm still having the problem:

-Uninstall MR, license server and remove license file
-Disable completely windows firewall
-Disable Avira Antivirus
-Restart the PC
-Install MR 3.2.1.5 and rlm
-Activate the floating license on the same computer overwriting the license file

Now if I check the license activation on MR I get this message:

This machine Host ID: **********
License type: FULL SUITE
User name: *********
Company: *********
Issue date:
Expiration date: permanent
Issued by: NEXTLIMIT
License checked out from server ID: localhost (localhost)
Available "maxwell_node" licenses info
=======================
Total licenses : 11
Used licenses : 1

If I run the rlm I get this:

It seems ther are some inconsistencies to me, can you understand what is happening?

Thanks guys

Since I upgraded to win10 I am experiencing a lot of problems related to blocked archives, hard disk overhead and unrecoverable freezes (0% cpu usage, 0% disk usage, graphic interface unresponsive, but hard disk light on, no blinking. Only solution: reset button).

I cannot discard a problem on the Maxwell side, but at the moment the trigger of a lot of weird problems in my computer was the upgrade to windows 10. For example, "System and compressed memory" makes my computer (i7 8-threads, 24GB memory, 1TB hard disk) unusable during 10 minutes if I reboot windows and skype starts with the system (100% disk usage).

Anyone is experimenting this issue with maxwell in win7?

yes i had alot of problems when i upgraded to win 10 ; now i use win 7
---------
try to disable rlm and run maxwell in demo version to see if that make difference
and check if you have another software use rlm and scan your pc from viruses , use : Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

My Windows 10 install was from scratch and wasn't an upgrade. I've heard of people having a multitude of system issues if they didn't do a fresh install. Perhaps that has something to do with it. Just a guess..

With the demo license it's the same.

Windows 10 is an upgrade from 7, but in nodes I have clear install too, I don't thinks it makes differences in my case.

I would try to delete MR preferences, can you tell where the folder is?

Thanks

try to do a clean installation of maxwell but before save all your materials and everything in maxwell folder
you find the mr prefs in : Documents/Maxwell

It works!!!

Deleting preferences files worked! Now MR starts immediately as usual!

Thank you all
