Material instancing

Hi,

Is it somehow possible in Maxwell to instance a material for every geometry instance, to define unique material values for each geometry? (e.g. the material settings would be attributes of the geo or could be created via script.)

Basically, the idea would be to use just one material, instead of 'many' (e.g. 50k).

(Is there a limit / bottleneck for the amount of materials?)

Any input welcome!
Matt

In maxwell different values means different material. You can create a base material an do an script that creates new materials and assign them to geometry with some changes. But every change needs to be on it's own material.

In the image above all the individual pins share a single material and they only look different in color because of where they were when I planar projected UVs.

Maybe you could come up with a single material and some maps that serve your purpose when the only thing that varies from object to object is the UV values.
