I'd run CPU and RAM torture tests for a few hours.

i7 running at 3.5 ghz with 16mb ram.
have to install MBM etc. to see temp.... good idea, forgot about that.
edit:cpu temp. is at 62 deg. (Celsius) after 2 hours run, still rendering.

Run those tools and it would at least tell you if it's Maxwell related or hardware related. Probably hardware related....

I'm sure it's not maxwell related but I was hopping to get some good tips from guys like me that work their computers to the death

Well, my tip is run those tools first of all. It can be the MB, the CPU, the RAM, the PSU. Running such tools would at least help to pinpoint the problem.

well as for now, I've disabled any aspect of windows that says something like "hibernate" "sleep" etc. and the computer is still rendering after 18 hours...
I suspect that for some reason windows is to blame (as usual).
I know that hardware failure is not likely to happen like that, since during the day the computer is fine when I'm working with it.
And if it's clean (yes I do keep an air-blower in the office for cleaning PC's) it will not over heat.

Don't forget to consider driver issues as well; it took me a while to figure out why my laptop would freeze sometimes when resuming from a period of being inactive -- I finally found that it could happen if my second monitor was connected via HDMI, but not if I used Display Port. I don't need to use both at the same time, so I have never actually looked into fixing the issue, and with driver updates occurring in the meantime, who even knows if it is still a problem.
In your case, if disabling sleep/hibernate/etc turns out not to have helped, I'd also look at any process that runs late at night, such as product or Windows updates, a nightly backup, or a virus scan.
