MXED opens with long delay

MXED opens with a long delay, even if the material to be edited uses only small texture maps. MXED used to open real quick.
I remember there were some preferences one can/should delete when MR, STUDIO and MXED become slow when opening and saving - but which ones were they? Thanks!

Opening MXED without any other software running takes forever now : (
What preferences are to be deleted/changed in order to get back into working order, but without wrecking the licensing and other preferences?

It (version 3.1.1) opens more or less instantaneously here; the only thing that comes to mind is: which directory is set as the startup directory in the Browser tab? It remembers, from session to session, which was last selected, so try making sure it's not pointed at a slow share, or some directory with a million MXMs.
