Embedding channels in tif file issue

Hi,

I am working in Maya 2015 SR6, Maxwell plug-in for Maya version 3.1.4. (Win 8.1 64 bit)

I am trying to embed the depth channel to a tif file, but it seems not to work.

1] the output tif file in the MayaProject/images/ folder does not contain the additional layer/channel. If I don't click embed, the separate tif file for the depth is actually rendered.
2] when I stop the rendering in maxwell render, and manually save to tif file it lets me know (dialog box) that the channels will be embedded, but they actually are not in the resulting file.

So it seems the info is passed to maxwell render that it's supposed to embed, but it doesn't do it.

Any insight welcome!

Thanks!
m.

I think there were some problems before with embedding channels in tiff, but it's just a vague memory. Anyway, this does not sound like a plug-in issue, but a problem in the engine itself, so I'm going to move the thread to the main forum.

Hi again,

I did not get an answer so far in this ..

I still did not solve the issue .. it's quite an important thing that needs to work for me for an ongoing project ..

Please let me know..

Hi Matt,

Maxwell can save channels in TIFF format, but it uses TIFF pages (as specified in the TIFF spec) to save them, but if you open them in photoshop it won't show the TIFF pages ( photoshop support layers/channels in TIFF in a proprietary way using custom tags without using any public spec). Opening the TIFF in other image applications will show you the pages inside. (for example Preview.app in OS X or tiff viewer in windows and many other popular image applications)

Hey Nacho! It's been some time we spoke! :)

I see.

Is there a 16-bit format you can recommend then that allows me to see both layers in PhotoShop? I need 2 layers in PhotoShop ..

Or is it planned to support output to .psd soon?

Thanks!

Matt

Have you tried Maxwell mxi plugin for photoshop? it allows you to open MXI directly in photoshop with channels opening as layers (http://support.nextlimit.com/display/mx ... 1396279116). You can also use EXR with channels embedded using some advanced EXR plugin for photoshop (by default photoshop only opens first image but plugins like proEXR and some others I think allow you to open layers).

Hey !

Thanks, I did not even know this plugin exists.

I'll have a play, but I guess this solves my issue.

Cheers!
