Black edges around Multilight reflections.

Hi Guys,

I've recently started having an issue where my renders have black edges around reflections from multilights (almost like if you'd badly drawn a mask around it) - does anybody know how I can stop this happening?
The initial render will look like this, sometimes (but not always) when I adjust the light post render in Maxwell Render it disappears, but then when I save the image out as a tif or png it has the black edges again in the image file.

Here is the issue I'm having:

Does anybody have any ideas to fix this?
Cheers,

Gareth

it's better to share your scene with simple objects like spheres

Hi Gareth,

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Does the problem also show in a very simplified scene like sphere + emitter with the same material or it's just specific of this scene?

Which version of Maxwell and/or plug-in are you using?

Could you give us a step by step guide to get this problem so we can reproduce it here?

Thanks for your time and information.

It looks like it could be an issue with using a HDR image in the environment settings, or at least that exacerbates it quite a lot. When I turn them off it doesn't seem to appear in my renders.

I'm using 3.1.0.0, and my process is: Model in rhino -> apply Maxwell materials in Rhino -> send to Maxwell Studio -> import lighting setup -> adjust positioning -> add HDR image -> tweak lights -> render.

Hi Gareth,

We would like to take a look at the mxs scene to debug it.

Could you please send us a simplified version of it with all the dependencies including that HDRI? (You may want to change the ring with a sphere or something simple that still shows the problem).

Thank you.

Fernando

Hi Fernando,

No problem, how do you want me to make the file available to you?

Best regards,

Gareth

Hi Gareth,

You can upload it to any file sharing service you like (wetransfer, dropbox,...) and share the link with us by private message ("pm" button at the bottom left of this post) or through the Customer Gateway in Contact > Technical Support Form section.

I'll keep you informed about this issue.

Regards,

Fernando

Hi Gareth,

We've found that the problem has to do with the color multilight feature; it won't show with intensity multilight. As a temporary workaround you can adjust the colors in color multilight and then change to intensity multilight to render the final image.

Thanks for reporting the bug. I'll let you know when it gets fixed.

Regards,

Fernando
