Volumetrics only visible within light beam like with dust ?

Hi all,

happy new year!
I was wondering if it's possible to have volumetrics showing up only when hit by a light beam and without neither filling up the entire volume set in the volumetrics settings nor requiring extremely strong light and very low density. would that be some kind of an asymmetry setting like for sss that we'd need?
Look at that example to understand what I'm aiming for:

Cheers!

Happy new year to all of you.
I didn`t try it by myself, but i think there is missing some parameter to control volumetrics with very low density. I didn`t see render as is shown on your reference picture yet (maybe i didn`t search too much). Even very low density creates "fog" that is visible on entire picture.
Very similar is power laser beam, that is visible also in daylight, but only that beam is showing volumetric effect, no other near objects are affected by desaturation or "fog" effect.

@jojojo
You have to use thinsss bsdf instead of diffuse and control assymetry there. For fog I use about -0.3 assymetry.

Thank you AlexP I'll try that!
