Maxwell Render displacement maps using Topaz Impression

I'm experimenting with the new Topaz Impression Photoshop plugin. Normally what that software does is turn photos into paintings or line drawings. In this example I am using it to make a Maxwell Render displacement map. I'm starting with a simple blurry circle and running it through Topaz Impression in order to make this painterly texture of overlapping brush strokes which in turn makes what I think is a very convincing layered, flaking hole.

It's hard to get too many different big dramatic looks out of it but used in subtle ways I think it can add some complexity.

I think those subtle maps, as a normal map, would work great on metallic materials.

Free 30-day trial is available.
A lot of what it does is place many random strokes aligned along or across image gradients.

This reminds me about playing with 'fractal painter' once during the '90's
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fractal_Design
I see its now called painter 2015 by Corel.
I only saved one test......, Tony have you checked this one out? I see some mention of Corel painter in your blog.
