getting some frustrating artifacts

Not sure what's causing this... Likely something to do with the aluminum texture? But I generally like how it looks minus all the speckle defects, particularly in the water. Any suggestions? They're really bothering my client and I don't know enough about the software to cut straight to the fix. I've been wasting a lot of time experimenting but not really getting significantly better results without seriously compromising the look of the bare aluminum.

Both of these are SL21 and actual size.

Could you please try in Render Options>Illumination & Caustics, to switch Reflective Caustics from "Both" to "Direct". It looks like this is due to reflective caustics coming from both the water and boat surface.

Btw, you don't think roughness on the water looks strange? You can instead use a find bump map, you will get a more realistic effect. Water doesn't have roughness....

Eh yeah I'm not thrilled with the water... That's a sea extension with very low wind speed. Haven't really had time to experiment with it. Client wants a very calm sea.
