How to setup Vector Displacement Maps for Undercuts ?

Hi,
I wanted to use the capability of Maxwell to render planar faces as displacement mapped objects, with undercuts. Meaning the possibility to have cutouts in the displaced geometry like here:

I tried it out by creating a Mudbox Vector Displacement Map and Displacement Map with undercuts,

and assigning it as a Material either in Maxwell Studio or 3DS or Softimage, but i wasn't able to bring out the wanted undercut results.

How do i get this to work the way its shown in the Maxwell docu's example. It's not an explanation there with it.

I now have screen copied the Maxwell example VDM (Vector Displacement Map) which probably can't work due to lost 32 bit info, and used it as the VDM for a plane. It didn't work to get the mushroom looking like objects to grow out of the displacement.
Who knows how this works ?

I don't use Softimage but from what I see you seem to have dialed in the wrong overall displacement type.
One can see in your sceenshot that all settings for Vector displacement are all greyed out.
What is required is "Vector" as base type, you will probably set it in the highlighted dropdown.
