Any more info about the 'burn' parameter?

Hello all,
I have used Maxwell for some time now without ever knowing for sure how the burn parameter actually affects the image.
Does it simply apply a curve? I usually like to keep things as linear and accurate as possible before I start grading, am I right in thinking that setting the burn to 0 is most linear and true to life? or is it more like tone-mapping an hdr?
Thanks

Jules

Really no one knows?

Linear image is burn=1 and gives exactly same result as linear mapping in vray.
In general it expands dynamic range (similar to canon highlight tone priority), with burn=0.1 about 1EV and with burn=0 about 3-4EV.
