is it possible to render lines, splines, open wires etc as lines in maxwell ?

Yep! there's a procedural texture called "Wireframe texture" or something like that.

you can if you use the sameWireframe texture as alpha
in other render engine you can quickly render wireframe ; i don't know why maxwell miss some optionts like : wireframe , matte shadow ; transparent backgroud

I think it depends on the modeling program you are using. For instance, in Max you can set splines to renderable and give them a thickness.
