When you've started to create a new material in the material editor and you hit the button with the disc on the right to save it, it asks you where you want to save the mxm.
If you now notice that you've forgotten something and click cancel it asks you if you really want to discard the changes ... it does not matter there if you click 'Discard' or 'Cancel' because it justs closes the material editor without giving you the opportunity to go back to the editor. Is this a bug?

Yes it must be a bug... and for me it shows an error message that "a void material can not be saved" all the time!?

That button is not just "save" but "save and close", that is why it behaves like that, we have not changed the behavior in v3. If it is confusing we could evaluate to have a "save" button only but it was requested in the past and probably some people are using it in that way.

thanks juan and what about the void material message?
also that button should always do the same no matter where it is... there is a button like that in the procedural texture where you can save it but it won't close...

You mean you create a material, click the Save button, and it tells you that a void material can't be saved?

You mean the button which converts a procedural texture to a bitmap? What do you mean by "it won't close"?

I totally understand that this button means 'save and close' and I totally like how it works IF you have saved the material before.
If you have not saved it and want to go back to your material before saving it, you will lose all your work. In every other software the 'cancel' button brings you back to the software, even if you have clicked exit before.
Try photoshop:
If you have an unsaved document and you just close photoshop it asks you if you want to save it (the material editor does the same here). But if you click cancel there, it brings you back to the app and cancels the exit progress (as the buttons name would suggest).
It works like that in every other app I know, so could you please just modifiy the cancel button for unsaved materials so it would not delete all the work you did before?

Kami is right, cancel is like making a step back... at least on most softwares...

Hi Kami,
You are absolutely right, it has always worked in that way, but we have fixed it for the next update.
Thanks,

Please try this to see if it is a bug:
- open MXM editor (standalone)
- use any preset material
- now make a "save mxm", not a "save mxm as" or you the save and close button...
The void issue message appears!?
