Dont throw away mw1.x materials, they open much better now.

I just opened some old 1.7 ish mxm's and they look really nice now in MW3. This also means a lot of out-of-date material knowledge / files / people.. ;)... become useful again < slight exaggeration but you get the point..

This is all relating to the way additive layers blend now.

Thankyou NL, finally the circle is complete, just need to unlearn all my workarounds.

Interesting! Thanks for the info.

Can you say if you notice a speed increase of additive materials?
I had started to use multi BSDF materials again whenever possible instead of multiple layers after i realised that they render faster - and can be much faster in some situations like ThinSSS leaves.
(i think it was you who gave me the hint  )
Or is this obsolete and there is no difference between multiple layers and multiple BSDFs?

Not a speed increase, just that they didnt work before, (permanent noise)

For transparent materials there is no change from 2.x, so still avoid additive layers with transparency IMO.

Just noticed that thin-sss works fine with an additive gloss layer above.
