[SOLVED] Network licensing problems

Windows 8.1 x64
This is a similar thread to what others have posted. Have a V3 floating license up an running on 1st computer on a small network. License server has been activated and is running on local machine, everything works fine locally on 1st computer. Firewall has been configured to allow primary Maxwell apps to communicate.
Go to 2nd computer, try to access license server which is already running. Allow the firewall to allow Maxwell apps to communicate. Launch any of the Maxwell apps, selecting the option to access the license server that is already running. Licensing fails. It appears that its not even really searching effectively on the network, based on the speed of the response. I've used the correct IP address of 1st computer, and also tried the full and partial computer names of the 1st computer. I've tried the default port 5053 and others. Exact same result. Maxwell apps on 2nd computer instantly fail to find the license server when they should be searching on the network for the license server.
Any ideas?

Hi pfschuyler
Could you please tell us exactly the error message you are getting?
Thanks,
Juan

OK, on 2nd Computer upon launch a Maxwell App the licensing window comes up and I select:
-Maxwell Render Suite - floating (Connect to the license manager already running)
Then a License Server Info window pops up and I enter:
-IP address of 1st computer (obtained via CMD), and default port 5053.
-I've also tried the full computer name of 1st computer, and alternate ports.
Every time I get the same result:
(window heading) License Error!
"Error saving license data.
Please visit our support site."
<OK>
It does this on all Maxwell apps on the 2nd computer. Response is instantaneous and it doesn't look like it goes to much effort to find the license server on the 1st machine.
Thanks.

Could you please go to the maxwell installation folder and run licenseactivator.exe with administration permissions? (right click menu->run as admin..) and repeat the process?
Thanks,
Juan

Juan,
Thanks for the fast response, that did it. I guess it was the additional issue of administrator permissions.

Juan,
Is there a way to permanently enable this so that, when launched it seeks out the license file? Apparently every time we launch Maxwell 3 from the 2nd computer it requires the same process of re-running the license activation. It does not seem to seek out and look for the license file automatically?
Also, when using Maxwell studio from the 2nd computer (with no one on the 1st), the rendering button is disabled? Confused.
Thanks.

Hi pfshuyler,
The licensing process should be done only once.
Could you please verify that after running in that machine the licenseactivator application with administrator permissions you get a "maxwell_license.lic" file saved here:
C:\ProgramData\Next Limit\Maxwell\licenses
The content of that file should be just one line, something like:
HOST 192.168.0.10 ANY 5053
Could you please confirm you see that file?
Thanks,

For the 2nd computer, the file is there and its just as described, under C:\ProgramData\Next Limit\Maxwell\licenses
HOST 192.168.254.112 ANY 5053
IP address and everything is correct for the 1st computer (where the license server is installed). But upon launching Maxwell or any of its apps under the 2nd computer, it says that the application is not licensed and it launches the licensing window to activate it.
Tried activating the license again by going to licenseactivator.exe with administrative privileges, and it successfully found the license with no errors. Shut down Maxwell and restarted, and there were the same licensing problems.

Could you check the in the firewall settings Maxwell can communicate (in both machines) and rlm.exe can also communicate (in the machine where the RLM license server is installed)?

Looks like that was it, allowed RLM.exe through windows firewall.
Works OK now. Thanks!
